Bri-Stor Systems Ltd is the UK’s largest manufacturer of light commercial vehicle conversions and van storage systems. They have been supplying the UK market for over 35 years and pride themselves on delivering a high quality product, on time to the agreed specification.

The Senior Management is a cross functional team that needs to respond to a fast moving order book where each van is different and changes to vehicle specifications are commonplace. They have the capacity to work with 2,500 vans at a time so the daily challenge is considerable.
They were seen as highly skilled and conscientious individuals by their Company Directors but teamwork and communication were an issue. Elan Valley Lodge was commissioned to design and deliver a programme that would enable the managers to openly discuss their team working challenges and agree a positive way forward.
Based at the Lodge for three days the team explored the key concepts of effective team work, leadership and prioritising and managing workload through a series of practical exercises, case studies and discussions. The concepts were kept real and constantly referenced back to their work at Bri-Stor. The output of the programme was a clearly defined “Team Charter” that detailed business focussed actions and team behaviours to improve communication and support for each other.
The team clearly had significant enthusiasm to implement their Charter as it was seen to have immediate impact on their ability to take responsibility for the day to day management of the business. A follow up session 10 weeks after the programme celebrated the considerable successes and helped the team take their thinking even further.
Bri-Stor systems have used Elan Valley numerous times for team building and skills development at all levels, from our apprentices to senior management. We found that tailored solutions at Elan Valley allowed employees to take away valuable insights, regardless of their experience levels.
Our managers came away from the experience feeling that they had been challenged in various aspects of communication, problem solving and team dynamics. They were able to gain greater understanding of their own strengths and weaknesses in overcoming complex problems.
Ultimately, the Elan Valley experience gave our employees a greater understanding of the dynamics of teamwork and management, giving them the tools to better apply their skills in the workplace day-to-day.
